MARCH 28 TO 31 GALAXIDI TO LEFKADA
MARCH 28 TO 31 GALAXIDI TO LEFKADA
Between Galaxidi and Nafpaktos the westerly wind tends to be much stronger than either east or west in the gulf. So it was this time too and as usual it is very pleasant to sail all the way from the mainland Sterea Ellada for an hour or so and tack back on the Peloponnese coast a few times to move west. You can relax blocking sails and steering at a good angle or observe the wind direction changing from coast to coast and propelling your sailboat. First night I anchored in one of my favourite places. The next day I had an appointment with Pavlo from Galaxidi to get him onboard at Antirio opposite Patras to sail till Lefkada during his week end rest. We met at 21.00 and sailed 10 miles to another favourite anchoring stop to cut the distance for the next day and sleep in peace. The next morning, as forecast, we had very weak winds past Messologgi up to the Ionian sea. Then we had good force 6 tailwind that demanded a lot of effort steering but brought us to the edge of Lefkada before the sunset and we anchored in a protected bay of Meganisi. I realised Pavlos was a well trained sailor , it was the first time we sailed together, and very keen. We reached Lefkada in early afternoon the next day, Pavlos had the time to visit on foot which I avoided because my knee was complaining. He took the bus back and I stayed till the next morning to avoid the strong north wind and receive the sea pump spare parts waiting for me to integrate them in my stock of consumable spares.
